My Teaching Journey

When I first wrote my teaching philosophy, I pictured an ideal classroom where curiosity alone would drive learning. I pictured a space where a passionate, empathetic teacher could inspire all learners.

Through teaching practice in diverse contexts, I’ve learned that curiosity must be nurtured within learners’ real-life situations. Many learners face challenges beyond the classroom (poverty, trauma, and language barriers) which shape how they learn. I’ve learned to be sensitive to these contexts, to adapt my methods, and to make learning meaningful and relevant.

No school and no learner are the same. But every learner deserves quality education and a safe environment in which to grow. I’ve discovered that emotional safety is foundational. Building trust, establishing predictable routines, and responding with empathy are central to my teaching practice.

Today, my philosophy is no longer abstract. It’s rooted in lived experience and shaped by the learners I serve. Each learner has a story, and they all have a future filled with possibility when nurtured and given a fair chance to succeed.
